This year’s ORF Long Night of Museums at the Technisches Museum Wien (Vienna Museum of Science and Technology) is dedicated to radio, which has been an integral part of everyday Austrian life for a century now. The highlight tours through the anniversary exhibition 100 Years of Radio. As Austria went on air, which is being shown at the museum for the first time this night, provide a fascinating insight into the eventful history of this medium.

ORF experts Haimo Godler (editor and chief speaker of the ORF) and Martin Leitner (ORF/Ö1 sound engineer) provide insights into their professions and tell exciting anecdotes from everyday radio life.


HIGH-VOLTAGE DEMONSTRATION
19:00 / 20:00 / 21:00 / 22:00 and 23:00
Approx. 15 minutes | level 2, high-voltage room
This impressive show takes you on a trip through the world of electrical charges and currents! We generate current with extremely high voltage and conduct astonishing experiments: light bulbs glow without a power cable and metre-long lightning bolts flash freely across our safety cage.
Free tickets are available at the museum’s ticket counter two hours before the start of the show.

CREATE YOUR OWN AUDIO CLIPS IN THE SOUNDLAB
18:00–22:00 | level 3, soundLAB
In the soundLAB, the recording studio at the Technisches Museum Wien, you can create your own audio clips from audio samples and personal voice recordings. Two sound engineers are on hand to edit and mix the audio tracks. This is how you can produce your own advertising spots or radio jingles and experience audio production up close.

MAKER*SPACE TECHLAB

In our techLAB, you can implement small projects independently at your own pace using technologies such as 3D printers, laser cutters or cutting plotters. Our competent explainers help you quickly familiarise yourself with our makerspace, learn the handling of the equipment and acquire the necessary digital skills.

The interactive exhibition for families with children aged 3–8 years stimulates the joy of experimentation and activity, because the versatile and artistic adventure playground holds numerous stations in store for curious explorers!
The children’s area is open at all times. No slot reservations are needed.

The new interactive exhibition for families with children aged 1.5–5 years gives little explorers plenty of space for movement and playful experiences, encouraging our youngest visitors to discover the joy of exploration.

BIRDLY® VR FLIGHT EXPERIENCE
18:30–23:30 | level 1
Birdly® gives visitors the opportunity to fly like a bird and discover fantastic perspectives in a realistic virtual reality experience. For an even more immersive full-body experience, users control their flight by moving their arms while they can even feel the wind on their faces.
Tickets for the VR experience are available at the ticket counter (€ 3.90).

CAMPAIGN FOR THE PUBLICATION “100 YEARS OF RADIO”
The book “100 Jahre Radio – Vom Detektorempfang zum Streamingprogramm” (“100 Years of Radio – from Crystal Sets to Streaming Programmes”) accompanying the exhibition will be available at a reduced price on the evening of the event.
