The strength of the Technisches Museum Wien (Vienna Museum of Science and Technology) lies in applied museum research and research communication to a broad audience. All research activities run together at the Research Institute.
In keeping with the museum’s guiding principle, the Research Institute (established in 2021) is dedicated to exploring, making accessible and communicating science and technology. Its work is based on the current priorities in the museum’s collection, exhibition, education and conservation activities, but is also a source of new ideas in these areas.

The institute serves as a non-university centre for research projects and as an open science partner for researchers, students and other interested parties, aiming to provide maximum access to institutional knowledge production and management. The institute encourages thoughtful and institutionally critical museum work and promotes it especially in the fields of digitisation, diversity, gender and sustainability.
