Apart from the older groups of structural engineering and fire prevention, most objects of this collection area originate from the 20th and early 21st century. All groups have in common that they focus on the use of technical objects in everyday life: directly on the human body, in the household, in cities or the environment. The expansion of the range of collections to this effect reflects the rethinking of the traditional understanding of museums and technology over the past few decades. A special group deals with the history of the Technisches Museum Wien.
