In the school year 2023/24, students from BRGORG15 Henriettenplatz and WMS Kauergasse participated in workshops with the English space feminist Eleanor S. Armstrong, researching the future of life in space from the perspective of young people.
The projects focused on themes of "Youth and Childhood" and "Social and Care Work"always considering gender aspects. As humans may live in space in the future, topics like care work, leisure activities, and existential questions such as pregnancy, birth, and death will play a more significant role in shaping everyday life. The students' gender research centered on the lives of girls and women, as well as the realities of boys' lives. Key concerns included creating safe and inclusive living spaces, opportunities for individuals to explore their gender identity in private, and challenging current gender roles due to the unique demands of space life, as well as catering to the needs of different bodies. The project resulted in both objects and texts created by the students.
The exhibition was inaugurated on the occasion of Space Day 2024 and will be on display at the Technical Museum Vienna until the end of August 2024. All participating students received two free tickets to present "their exhibition" to their families during the holidays.
