Today's children and teenagers will be significantly impacted by space sciences as they become adults. Through the project This is (not) Rocket Science!, they engage as Citizen Scientists, shaping research inquiries about their own futures.
As these young Citizen Scientists ponder today's advancements in space, pose questions, express needs, or create visions, they're essentially conducting research into their future. In this context, Mission Control, acting as a youth panel, is a fundamental component of the project. Mission Control is envisioned to have (limited) decision-making power within the museum. This transfer of decision-making requires thorough preparation and collaboration from both sides. This process of coming together involves reciprocal learning: The Members of Mission Control gain new insights into space science topics and content, while the team at the Technisches Museum Wien learns about the lifestyles and concerns of young people. The youths develop a connection with the Technisches Museum Wien, viewing it not only as a center for education and research but also as a space that they can be co-shaped. The Members of Mission Control are granted access, including behind-the-scenes at the Technisches Museum Wien, empowering them to navigate and understand a scientific institution where they feel confident, heard, and involved.
Mission Control has successfully launched! Mission Control had a lift-off!
