May 22 & 29, 2024
On two days, colleagues from the TU Wien Space Team spent one morning each at the Technical Museum and worked in a double workshop with two classes from NMS Kauergasse and two classes from BRGORG15 Henriettenplatz.
In these workshops, the students learned about the functionality and components of rockets used in space travel. A fireworks rocket is constructed based on the same principles as a "large" space rocket: it needs a fuel container, an ignition device, a combustion chamber, stabilizing fins for a straight flight, and a nose cone containing a properly folded parachute for a safe landing.

The work was done simultaneously in theory and practice: step-by-step, the students assembled their small rockets, tied lines, glued fixing rings, folded parachutes, and finally personalized them. Unfortunately, an actual launch outside the museum had to be canceled due to previously identified safety deficiencies. "Safety first" is the rule at the museum and especially in rocket science.
